The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act is a piece of American legislation that ensures students with a disability are provided with a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) tailored to their individual needs through an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
IDEIA has determined that children with the following disabilities qualify for an Individualized Education Program (IEP):
*Children with ADHD may qualify under the "Other Health Impairment” category if the ADHD symptoms severely inhibit learning and behavior at school.
As a member of your child’s IEP team, you share the responsibility (along with the rest of your child’s IEP team) of ensuring that your child receives a free appropriate public education (FAPE). You must develop a working knowledge of the process and key terms regarding an IEP to be prepared to advocate for your child's needs and protect the rights afforded to them under IDEA.
