If you are the parent of a child with disabilities, you know how important it is to your child's future that their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is designed in a way that makes their free appropriate public education (FAPE) accessible to them. However, the IEP process is complex, and the unfamiliar terms and statistics within the IEP documents and at IEP meetings can make it challenging for parents to know how to participate and advocate effectively as part of their child's IEP team. Many parents feel overwhelmed by the IEP process. If this is your experience, you are not alone! As a special education advocate, I am here to help you navigate every step of the IEP process.
I am a Board Certified Advocate in Special Education, trained and certified by the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET). I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology as well as several coaching certifications in areas such as life coaching, interpersonal relationship coaching, and wellness coaching.
In addition to my specialized training and professional certification in Special Education Advocacy, I am a parent of 3 neurodiverse and/or disabled children. I have navigated IEP and 504 plans with my own children over the span of 20 years as a parent.
My professional training gives me a well-rounded understanding of every aspect of the IEP process and the federal law IDEA, including state complaints and disputes, enabling me to assist parents overwhelmed by the IEP process. At the same time, my personal experiences navigating the IEP process for my children allows me to connect with parents through our shared experiences as parents of exceptional children.
I am trained to advocate for children in any of IDEA's 13 disability categories. However, I have gained most of my experience advocating for children with Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Speech and Language Impairments, and Emotional Disturbance.
Some of the Ways I Can Assist You as a Special Education Advocate Are:
